Another busy day in Room 9!
Today, students practiced their letter Ee sounds. Ee is a harder letter to work with, so this may take us a few days. Students will start coming home with a letter book to practice their letter sounds with parents. Watch for this in their backpacks! We are always practicing our reading, and students brought home some library books yesterday. Have your student read what they can, or read the book with them while pointing at the words! In Math we practiced writing our numbers and we played a fun math game that uses our subitizing skills (Subitizing is the rapid, accurate, and confident judgments of numbers performed for small numbers of items.) Remember that Meet the Teacher is next week, a sign up sheet will be distrubted soon! We do have school all day on September 19th (Thursday), but no school on September 20th (Friday).

Today Room 9 worked on their letter Dd sounds and words. We practiced a lot, because many students say "duh" when they say the letter Dd. Parents, make sure we practice at home, keep the letter Dd sound short and quick. Ask your student for words that start with the letter Dd!
We are continuing our work on Seasons, learning about the unique times of year and when they occur. Students are working on their number recognition as well. They are working to show that they can identify numbers from 1-100 both pictorially and symbolically. Please ensure students are coming to school with lots of healthy snacks. We've had a cold going around Room 9, so students are feeling very tired. The extra nutrition will help! Room 9 had another great day, even if it was rainy outside!
Well, we made it! The first week of school is always full of nerves, especially for students. On Friday, we met our Grade 6 Buddies. Not only do our Buddies provide the Grade 1/2s with someone they can go to for help, they also help the younger students build their confidence as they adapt to life in school. We hope to meet with our Buddies once a week to help with reading, socializing, and provide the students with someone else they can talk to.
Room 9 had another amazing day!
