Friday is Rosscarrock's Terry Fox Run! Please ensure students are dressed in comfortable running shoes and warm clothing. Parents are welcome to join for our assembly beginning at 11:45, and stay for the run following. Thank-you for your support!
Students are really getting the hang of their math centre rotation. At this rate, we will be starting our regular math program by next week! Room 9 has enhanced so many math skills these last few days: mathematical strategy, counting on, number recognition. We saw a lot of mathematical confidence in the room today! Students were also introduced to their literacy centres today. Grade 2s were busy building sentences and creating words with "at", "an", "it", and "in" endings. Grade 1s worked on building word puzzles, alphabet sorting, letter building, and letter sounds. As a whole group, we worked to create stories based only on pictures. This concept is new for a lot of students, and the fear of "being wrong" can hold a lot of us back. Make sure you're talking at home and encouraging your child to do hard things. Trying hard things is how we build new pathways in our brains! Parents, make sure all students are practicing their yellow word list at home. Knowing these words will only enhance your child's literacy confidence! Finally, it's Orange Shirt Day on Monday September 30th. Students are encouraged to wear an orange shirt (if they have one!) to commemorate the residential school experience, to witness and honour the healing journey of the survivors and their families, and to commit to the ongoing process of reconciliation.
