Tomorrow is Rosscarrock's Terry Fox Run! Please ensure students are dressed in comfortable running shoes and warm clothing. Parents are welcome to join for our assembly beginning at 11:45, and stay for the run following. Thank-you for your support!
Reminder: Orange Shirt Day is held annually on September 30. This day campaigns to keep the discussion going around all aspects of residential schools. It is an opportunity to remember and honour residential school survivors, and those whose lives ended too soon. We encourage you to take the opportunity as a school to reflect on history, legacy and implications, discuss stories of survival and strength, and share ways we can work together toward reconciliation. If your child has an orange shirt, we invite them to wear this on Monday Sept 30th, 2019. Students are showing great success with their new literacy centres! During these centres, students are able to work on letter recognition, letter sounds, blending words, creating sentences, and spelling in a levelled, structured way. This allows students to do work they feel comfortable with which enhances their literacy confidence. Ask your student to show teach you some of the math games we've been practicing in class. You don't require all of the same materials we use, some paper, pencils, loose coins, and some blocks would work! For example, 1-2-Nim is a game that promotes mathematical strategy, with goal being to obtain the last of the objects in a pile. Students have to count and plan ahead as each turn they are only allowed to grab 1 or 2 of the objects at the time (no more than 2, no less than 1). The number of objects in the grab pile is not set, so you never know how many turns you'll get! Students are learning so much in Mrs. B's music class. As students drum away to some classic rock tunes, they are learning all about rhythm. Perhaps your child will want to show of their musical skills at home!
