What a spooky day in Room 9! Students began their day with the exploration of the letter Ll. We practiced first with saying the sound out loud, then we practiced writing the letter, and finally we moved on to our letter Ll books were students worked on their Ll vocabulary. Families, watch for the letter Ll books in your student's backpack and ensure you practice reading this at home, too! In math, students experimented with our class pumpkins and measurement. Students were able to collect data in groups and, together, we determined which of our class pumpkins was the tallest and which was the widest. Students had so much fun with this hands on math experiment! The data we collected is pictured below. Today also begins our book study of "Room on the Broom" by Julia Donaldson. This is not only a very festive book but also highlights kindness and bravery! To get started, students learned some new vocabulary words so that while reading, we could all properly interpret what was happening in this action packed book. Ask you student some of the new words they learned today! Families, feel free the watch the book with your student on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWB0goTWZic In science, we continued our exploration of colour! Students learned all about the rainbow today and are able to list the colours of the rainbow using the acronym: ROYGBIV. Students were able to explore the room with rainbow glasses and see the world as if they were a rainbow! We had some much fun trying to change the colours of classroom objects depending on what coloured lens we were using. We also read the book "Mix it Up" by Herve Tullet! Finally, posted below is s a great opportunity for our kids to see a hockey game and experience some Canadian culture! Tickets are free for students and only $12 for parents. Parents register online - see the flyer attached! Families, don't forget that there is no school on Friday, November 1st. Also, with the weather getting worse, please ensure all students have proper footwear and jackets!
