Grade 1 and 2 spent the morning on a scientific exploration of natural and manufactured objects. Students learned these definitions and then investigated objects in the classroom and outside to determine if they were natural or manufactured. Students can determine that some objects are manufactured using natural objects. Like the classroom pillows, for example. These are made by people using cotton, which occurs in nature. Students used their knowledge of letter sounds to try to spell these objects on their own, too! Discuss with your student at home the difference between manufactured and natural objects!
Afterwards, we met with our grade six buddies to learn new math games for math centres! Grade 1s were taught Kaboom by their buddies. In Kaboom, we use our number recognition to represent numbers in various ways. Grade 2s learned Uno which not only enhances number recognition skills but also comparing number skills, too. Families, school photo order packages have now been sent home. School photo order deadline is October 28! Have a great weekend!
