Today, students in Room 9 learned all about their primary colours: Red, Yellow, and Blue! Then, we recreated art by Pieter Mondrian (see the final picture: Composition II in Red, Blue, and Yellow from 1930). Students loved creating their own versions of these compositions. We also read the book Vincent Paints His House, which makes reference to the famous painting A Starry Night. Talking about art and seeing it in our books and our projects shows students that they have the ability to create beautiful work, just like famous artists!
Students in grade 1 continued their practice on writing their numerals today. Just like our letters, we must ensure we are writing our numerals correctly. And, this is another skill that comes with practice! Grade 2s worked further on their subtraction skills and have been testing each other with flash cards. Numbers up to 20 have now been introduced to the subtraction work that grade 2s are doing and they are enjoying the extra challenge! Students also worked on their sentence parts today. In small groups, we reviewed the stories we completed yesterday continued to identify the subject, or noun, in these sentences. Students all know that a noun is a person, place, or a thing. Once again, practice with sentence writing will only enhance our confidence and fluency. Families, tomorrow is our short day this week but please ensure students have a healthy snack. Additionally, if your student wants a new home reading book for the weekend please have their home reading folder in their backpack and I will exchange in. School photo order deadline is Monday October 28th!
