What a whirlwind of a day!
Room 9 explored further with natural and manufactured objects today as we sorted our natural objects by colour. Students are able to describe the difference between natural and manufactured and they are able to sort items, too! We had fun discussing why some objects were sorted into certain colour groups. In math, grade 1s worked on writing numerals. Today, we focused on tracing our numbers and students are working on identifying when numerals are written correctly and incorrectly. Many students require practice with the numeral 2, so practicing at home would be a big help! Grade 2s explored the impact of adding the numeral 0 to their addition and subtracting sentences. Students know that when you start with 8 and add none, you end up with 8. They also know that when you have 3 circles and take away 0 circles, you end up with 3 circles. Grade 2s also understand that when we have 8 and take away 8, we end up with zero. In fact, whenever we take away the same number we start with, we always end up with zero! In Language Arts, students continued their study of sentences. All complete sentences require a subject and an action - today, we focused on the subject. Students learned all about nouns which can be a person, a place, or a thing! Students then completed sentences with nouns to write their own short story. Ask your student for examples of nouns tonight!
