Students have landed in Iqaluit! Using the above link, we touched down in Iqaluit this afternoon! We explored the city using Google Earth's street view and made notes of how Iqaluit's geography differs from our own. Students then used a real compass to go as far Northeast as our school ground would allow, getting us a little bit closer to this arctic town! We reviewed finding less as a whole class today using our large number line. Students know that the closer you are to zero on the number, the smaller your number is and when we find less, we are finding smaller numbers! Here's some additional practice in finding less: Grade twos worked more on finding the distance around an object today, using an addition sentence to represent the total of all sides of their objects. This is a helpful strategy specifically when we work with non-rectangular shapes, as their sides become uneven! With grid paper, students can work on the below:
